Homeschooling While Potty Training
One day after we got our foster babies, I washed my 3 year old and got ready to put clothes on him. I spontaneously decided that I was NEVER going to be ready to potty train and we’d start that day. You have to understand that doing things on a whim is how I roll. I can be a very plan based person unless it comes to do with something I’m really not looking forward to doing. I just take life with how I’m feeling that moment. Keep in mind, when I decided to all of a sudden potty train my 3 year old I had all the things I would need. I had months before bought some toilet accessories, a rewards chart, some toys and candy, pull ups, and I already had a little potty. All I lacked is the motivation to start.
How We Did It
It would probably be best if the toddler boy was butt naked, but my OCD is totally not ok with that. For that reason he at least had a extra long adult shirt on. The first week he had some accidents. I took him potty the first day about every ten minutes and had him sit on the little potty in the living room as well. As he did good with that I extended it to every 30 minutes. When he did good with that, I moved it to every hour. After the first week or two I put pull ups on him to go to town and outside.
Pull Ups Not Recommended
I really didn’t want him to wear pull ups outside, but it started to get too cold outside to not have pants on him. This is where I wish I would’ve potty trained him in the summer. With the rest of my kids I didn’t use pull ups at all to potty train unless we went to a friends house or to church. However, I didn’t want to be constantly worried that our little guy would pee or poop everywhere when he was playing. He has accidents some, but all things considered he is rocking it. Even though I don’t recommend the pull-ups, for this season and what we’re dealing with they worked really well.
